All guests are welcome to participate in any of the following activities at no extra charge. A daily schedule is posted on a noticeboard in the main lounge.

GUIDED WALKS

Walks are in the surrounding countryside. All are accompanied by a fitness specialist and are scheduled to vary in pace according to fitness levels of participants ie Slow/Medium/Power

T’AI CHI

This ancient Chinese form of martial arts may be practised by anyone. The slow, graceful movements are deceptively easy, but they require full attention and presence of mind. Because T’ai chi is a form of embodied mindfulness, there are immediate health benefits. Regular T’ai chi practice develops concentration, flexibility and improved balance.

YOGA

Yoga means ‘union’. Though ancient, this holistic system is now  practised all over the globe due to positive effects on mind and body of its wide range of postures, breathing exercises and meditation. At The Hydro, classes are conducted at a remedial level to loosen muscles and joints, correct breathing abnormalities and postural dysfunction whilst providing a template for your later use at home. Yoga is one of many ways to develop your mindfulness practice.

 

LAUGHTER YOGA

Join a group in discovering the joy of communal laughter. Laughter is a great booster of the immune system and provides excellent (and fun!) cardio-vascular exercise regardless of whether it’s authentic. You don’t need a sense of humour, just a willingness to enter into the spirit of childlike playfulness for the duration of a 30-min class.

 

PROGRESSIVE RELAXATION

These are mindfulness classes in which participants lie on comfortable mats while the instructor’s relaxing voice offers guidance in paying attention to breathing and different parts of the body. In addition to the experience of deep relaxation, these classes encourage awareness of the present moment.

SITTING IN STILLNESS

These are sessions in guided group sitting meditations / mindfulness classes lasting 30 minutes. They are suitable for beginners as well as anyone who has an established practice.  Thereafter, you are invited to take your newly heightened awareness into the garden where you may find that ‘taking time to smell the roses’ takes on fresh significance. *Please note that no religious/sectarian affiliations are involved.

PILATES

Classes are designed to strengthen the body comprehensively, with a particular emphasis on core strength, to improve general fitness and wellbeing. The focus is on alignment, breathing, developing a strong physical core and improving coordination and balance. If practiced consistently, pilates improves flexibility, builds strength and develops control and endurance in the entire body.

ORGANIC VEGGIE GARDEN TOURS

You are welcome to join the gardening team for 30-min guided tours to discover the permaculture principles behind the cultivation of organic produce that is fundamental to nutrition at The Hydro.

These 30-min classes take place in the heated indoor pool and are directed by a fitness specialist. The resistance of warm water in combination with gentle exercises helps build strength and flexibility. Classes are applicable to all levels of fitness.

 

EVENING LECTURES AND DISCUSSIONS

These take place after supper and provide opportunities to discover the theory and background behind the Hydro’s healing process, as well as learn more about various signature treatments and their practitioners.
