JOYFUL EATING: A Mindfulness Retreat

Did you know that weight gain is frequently linked to stress and poor sleeping habits? If this is true for you, dieting will not help! Recent research shows that long-term weight loss can be achieved through managing stress levels.

This doesn’t mean quitting our jobs or running away from all our responsibilities! A different kind of response is needed – it’s called Mindfulness.

Mindfulness is usually defined as paying attention what’s actually happening right now, from moment to moment, with openness, curiosity and kindness. Really, though, what does this mean?

Firstly, know that you can’t learn Mindfulness by reading words off a page or going to a lecture. It’s a way of training the brain and, just like developing strong core muscles, it takes practice. Some commitment is necessary before the benefits take hold.If you ever had the willpower to stick to a diet, you already have what it takes!

This is a unique opportunity to learn the basics of Mindfulness in the peace and calm of The Hydro. Instead of another diet, you will be carefully directed to really investigate what motivates you to eat. You may be surprised by what you uncover in this simple, yet profound approach. What’s more, you’ll learn new habits of genuine self-care designed to help you stay calm during stressful times.

The facilitator, Julie Deane-Williams (www.mindingthefoodspace.co.za) is a long-standing dietician and Mindfulness trainer. With knowledge and experience combined with her exceptional gentleness and empathy, Julie has witnessed the transformation of many of her clients’ lives.
