Ayurvedic Yoga Retreat

Monday 22nd – Friday 26th October 2018

Ayurveda is a sophisticated and powerful mind-body health system that predates modern interest in the mind-body connection by thousands of years.

Ayurveda contains wisdom that enables people to remain vibrant and healthy into old age while simultaneously realising their full human potential.

Its main guiding principles are

  1.  the mind and the body are inextricably connected
  2.  nothing has more power to heal and transform the body than the mind.

More than a mere system of treating illness, Ayurveda is a science of life (Ayur = life, Veda = science or knowledge) as well as a way of conscious living. Understanding the qualities of the different elements and their daily effects empowers us to redress our imbalances. All inherent qualities of our doshas (three energies that are specific to each individual) are positive – the uncomfortable emotional imbalances of fear, anxiety, anger, irritation and depression show an imbalance of elements (either too much or too little). The manifestation of diseases and physical discomfort can be alleviated through balancing our dosha elements.

During the week Mon 22nd October – Fri 26th October, Rene Lambert (see bio below), a committed Ayurvedic practitioner and yoga teacher for 18 years, will be offering a unique 4-day retreat at The Hydro. This  complete ‘Introduction to Ayurveda’ will inform you of your individual Ayurvedic profile ie your dosha. In the evenings any queries and questions will be answered and there will be a relaxation and visualisation practice leading to an enjoyable meditation. You will receive comprehensive course notes and Rene will be on hand for private enquiries.

This amazing 4-day retreat is being offered to Hydro guests at the special price of only R1000 (in addition to the cost of accommodation, meals & facilities or the cost of the Package you have chosen).

Daily classes (11h00 – 13h15 ) are designed for beginners. No prior Ayurvedic knowledge is required.

Each class contains:

  • Asanas, basic dynamic poses that incorporate movement to alleviate any physical discomfort you may be experiencing
  • Pranayama, the regulation of the breath through certain techniques and exercises for the good health of body and brain
  • Yoga Nidra involves verbal guidance and visualisation, leading to deep relaxation. It’s similar to a body scan

During the week you will discover your constitutional blueprint or elemental makeup. This is an individual graph of your doshas. Understanding your specific dosha profile helps you to understand why and how you feel out of balance and how to balance. You will also start to see others around you differently and with more compassion.

Evening sessions (19h15 –20h45) include discussions about the day’s class as well as yoga nidra sessions to lead you into deep relaxation before you head for bed.
